Parent Interview & Questionnaire
My first experience with having to fill out Parent Questionnaire for Ella was ASQ (Ages & Stages) 12 Month Questionnaire (11 months 0 day through 12 months 30 days). My initial reaction after briefly skimming through was: “Gosh… Ella CANNOT do anything that’s listed here except for 1 or 2 things…” Then, I burst into tears.. But then I read the instructions carefully once again and it said, “Try each activity with your baby before making a response.” When I followed the instructions and actually tried each activity, Ella was able to do some of activities that I’ve never seen her do before. I think the key is to follow instructions carefully and be honest and truthful to your responses in parent interviews and filling out questionnaires. Also, always think of concrete examples of your particular concerns that you see or don’t see from your child. Detailed Parent concerns (e.g., reason for referral) can be very helpful for experts to answer any specific questions that the parents may have. Remember, there are no stupid questions….
